Member of a prestigious family of photographers , Venancio Gombau Santos was born in Cabanillas de la Sierra ( Madrid) , on April 1, 1861 . Began in 1880 as an apprentice in his uncle’s Madrid studio Venancio Gombau , and a year later settled in Salamanca as an auxiliar in the establishment of José Oliván . By 1900 he established his own studio in Prior Street . It was undoubtedly the most popular and well-known photographer of Salamanca. Portrait, artist and reporter, thousands of photographs in their living memory has left the city and the people and the people of the province. I get to simultaneously maintain branches in Peñaranda de Bracamonte and Ciudad Rodrigo, and was correspondent for several publications Graphic Illustrated of Madrid. A Venancio Gombau was succeeded by his sons , Amalio and Guzman , who took charge of the study of Salamanca since his death in 1929. A representative part of your file has been recently acquired by the City of Salamanca, and is deposited in the Photo Library of Castilla y León.Another important part of this file is owned by the family of Jose Luis de la Parra.
